Bauhaus design

It is exactly 80 years since the Bauhaus was closed down by the Nazis in 1933. The Bauhaus was one of the very first design colleges and, following its brief 14 year existence, can lay claim to having established a design blueprint for modern industrial design. Many of the products are still in production and appear fresh and exciting, testimony to the timeless nature of great design. Read more

Harris Tweed has seen a resurgence in popularity over the last few years and in a bid to shake off its fusty image has moved from gentleman’s tailors to high street fashion chains.  Furniture makers have not been slow to pick up on the trend. Read more

Design studio and avid cyclists Quarterre have launched a range of bicycle storage. The three sculptural bike racks Hood, Branchline and Shadow are designed to display your bike, whilst looking amazing when empty.

Hood is a simple folded metal option to hang a bike on the wall with a shelf to hold your accessories. Branchline holds two bikes on an amazing tree-like leaning rack made from bamboo plywood and Shadow is an elegant folded steel floor rack that supports your bike in an upright position.

Fritz Hansen have taken Arne Jacobsen’s classic series 7 chair collection back to its roots by re-launching the chair in its original wooden veneers, which include maple, ash, beech and cherry. These can be mixed and matched with nine new colours which take their inspiration from Jacobsen’s 1968 palette.
